Adding schema markup is only half the job. A missing comma breaks the whole block. A missing image property makes an article ineligible for some rich results. A plugin conflict adds two different Organization blocks with different names. A validator catches all of this in seconds so your structured data actually works.

What our validator checks

The Schema Markup Validator accepts a page URL or pasted code. It:

  • Extracts every JSON-LD block from the page
  • Checks that each block is valid JSON
  • Reads each item and its type, including items inside graph arrays
  • Checks recommended properties for common types such as Article, Product, Organization, Local Business, FAQ, Breadcrumb, Website, Video, Recipe, Event, Person, Review, HowTo and Job Posting
  • Shows the raw JSON-LD formatted neatly so you can read it

How to use it

  1. Open the Schema Markup Validator.
  2. Enter a page URL or paste your JSON-LD code.
  3. Click Validate Schema.
  4. Fix invalid blocks and add missing recommended properties.

Recommended properties by type

  • Article: headline, image, datePublished and author
  • Product: name, image and offers
  • Organization: name, url and logo
  • Local Business: name, address and telephone
  • FAQ page: mainEntity with questions and answers
  • Video: name, thumbnailUrl, uploadDate and description

Missing properties do not always break schema, but they can make your page ineligible for rich results.

Common errors and fixes

  • Invalid JSON: usually a missing comma, extra comma or unescaped quote. Regenerate the code with the Schema Markup Generator.
  • Wrong type name: schema types are case sensitive, for example LocalBusiness not localbusiness.
  • Duplicate entities: remove extra blocks added by multiple plugins.
  • Data that does not match the page: update prices, dates and names.

Validate after every change

Theme updates, new plugins and page builders can add or break structured data without you noticing. Validate key pages after updates and once a month for your top pages.

Check competitors for ideas

Run the validator on competitor pages that show rich results. You will see exactly which schema types and properties they use. That is a quick way to learn what Google rewards in your niche.

A real example

A recipe blog wondered why its recipes never showed star ratings or cooking times in Google, while competitors did. The validator showed that the recipe schema was present but missing recipeIngredient and image, and one block had a broken comma left by a plugin update. After fixing the plugin settings and adding the missing properties, the recipes became eligible for rich results again and click rates improved over the following weeks.

A monthly check routine

Pick your homepage, one product or service page and one blog post. Validate all three once a month and after any theme or plugin update. If they pass, the templates behind them are likely working for the whole site. If one fails, check other pages that use the same template and fix the source of the problem rather than individual pages.

Common plugin conflicts

Many websites run two SEO plugins or a theme with built in schema plus a separate plugin. Both may output their own Organization or Article blocks with slightly different data. The validator will show both blocks. Keep one source of truth and disable schema output in the other tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does valid schema guarantee rich results

No. Valid schema makes you eligible, but Google decides when to show rich results.

Does the validator support microdata

It focuses on JSON-LD, the format Google recommends.

Can I validate code before publishing

Yes. Paste the JSON-LD directly instead of a URL.
