Your Google listing is a small advert that you write yourself. It has a title, a URL and two short lines of description. That is all a searcher sees before deciding whether to click your result or the one below it. A few years ago I helped a tuition academy in Rawalpindi that ranked fourth for its main keyword yet got almost no clicks. The title was cut off halfway and the description was a random sentence from the footer. Fixing those two lines doubled their clicks within weeks.

What a SERP preview shows

SERP means search engine results page. The SERP Preview Tool draws your listing the way Google displays it, so you can judge it with the eyes of a searcher. It shows:

  • A desktop preview with the title, breadcrumb style URL and description
  • A mobile preview, because most searches in Pakistan happen on phones
  • Title width in pixels, since Google cuts titles by width, not by a fixed number of letters
  • Description length with a clear warning when it is too short or too long
  • Keyword bolding, so you can see your target phrase highlighted the way Google often does

How to use it

  1. Open the SERP Preview Tool.
  2. Type or paste your page title.
  3. Add the page URL.
  4. Paste your meta description.
  5. Optionally add the keyword you want to see in bold.
  6. Watch the preview update live as you type, then adjust until it looks right.

There is no button to wait for. The preview changes with every letter, which makes it easy to try five versions of a title in a minute.

What makes a listing get clicks

  • Put the main keyword near the start of the title. Searchers scan the first few words.
  • Keep the title under about 600 pixels so it is not cut off with dots.
  • Write a description of 120 to 160 characters that explains the benefit of clicking.
  • Add a reason to choose you, such as free delivery in Karachi, a 2026 update or a step by step guide.
  • Use a clean, readable URL. The URL Slug Generator can help.
  • Match the search intent. Someone searching for a price list wants prices, not a company history.

Titles that fit and titles that do not

A title like Best Laptop Bags in Pakistan 2026: Prices, Brands and Buying Guide is too wide and will lose its ending on desktop. A tighter version such as Best Laptop Bags in Pakistan 2026: Prices and Brands fits and still says everything that matters. Wide letters like W and M take more space than i and l, which is why counting characters alone can mislead you. The pixel measurement removes the guesswork.

Google may rewrite your snippet

Sometimes Google shows a different title or description from the one you wrote. This usually happens when your text does not match the query well, is stuffed with keywords or is missing. Writing a clear, honest title and description that matches the page content makes rewrites much less likely. If Google keeps changing one page, compare your title with the main heading and make them agree.

A real example

A small online shoe shop on Tariq Road had product pages with titles like Product 1247 and no meta descriptions at all. We wrote titles in the pattern product name, key feature, brand name and used the preview tool to make each one fit. Descriptions mentioned the price range, cash on delivery and delivery time. Within two months the pages that already ranked on page one began receiving noticeably more clicks, without any new backlinks.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Writing the same title for many pages. Every page should have its own title.
  • Ignoring mobile. A listing that looks fine on desktop can wrap awkwardly on a phone.
  • Using all capital letters. It looks like shouting and is harder to read.
  • Promising what the page does not deliver. People return to Google quickly, which wastes the click.

Frequently asked questions

Is this exactly how Google will show my page

It is a very close simulation using the same fonts and widths. Google may still adjust the snippet for some searches.

Why measure pixels instead of characters

Google limits titles by display width. Pixel measurement predicts truncation more accurately.

Does the preview change my website

No. It is a planning tool. Copy the final title and description into your CMS or SEO plugin.
