Technical SEO is the foundation under your content. You can write the best article in Pakistan, but if Google cannot crawl the page, or finds three different versions of it, the article will not rank. I have seen a whole company website disappear from Google because a developer left Disallow: / in robots.txt after launching. A technical check would have caught it on day one.
What is technical SEO
Technical SEO covers how search engines access, understand and store your website. It includes secure connections, redirects, crawl rules, sitemaps, canonical tags, indexing directives, mobile setup and server performance. Most problems are invisible to visitors, which is why they often go unnoticed for months.
What our checker tests
The Technical SEO Checker crawls your site like Googlebot and checks:
- HTTP status of the page
- HTTPS and whether http:// redirects to https://
- www and non-www consolidation so only one version exists
- Redirect chain length
- Server response time also called TTFB
- robots.txt presence and whether it blocks everything
- XML sitemap at /sitemap.xml or listed in robots.txt
- Canonical tag and noindex directives in meta robots and headers
- Mobile viewport, language attribute and structured data
- HSTS header and HTML size
How to use it
- Open the Technical SEO Checker.
- Enter your website or any page URL.
- Click Check Technical SEO.
- Fix every red item, then improve the warnings.
The most important fixes
- Force HTTPS: every http:// request should 301 redirect to https://. Most hosting panels and Cloudflare offer this as one switch.
- Choose www or non-www: pick one and redirect the other. Two versions split your ranking signals.
- Fix robots.txt: never block your whole site. Test any rule with the Robots.txt Tester.
- Add a sitemap: generate one with the XML Sitemap Generator and list it in robots.txt.
- Remove accidental noindex: many themes add noindex on staging and forget to remove it.
- Speed up the server: slow TTFB often comes from cheap shared hosting or heavy plugins. A CDN like Cloudflare helps a lot.
When to run a technical check
Run it after launching a site, moving to new hosting, switching to HTTPS, changing your domain or installing a major plugin. These are the moments when technical problems usually appear. A monthly check on your homepage is a good habit for everything else.
How technical problems show up in Search Console
If you use Google Search Console, technical issues often appear as pages that are discovered but not indexed, crawled but not indexed or blocked by robots.txt. When you see these warnings, run the checker on an affected URL. It usually points to the exact cause within seconds, which saves hours of guessing.
A real migration story
A small clothing brand moved from an old hosting company to a new one. The new site looked identical, but sales from Google dropped by half within two weeks. The checker showed three problems in under a minute. The http version no longer redirected to https, so Google saw two copies of every page. The new theme added noindex to all category pages. And the sitemap still listed the old URLs that now returned 404. We fixed the redirect with one setting, removed the noindex option and generated a fresh sitemap. Traffic recovered over the next month. None of these problems were visible to customers browsing the store, which is exactly why technical checks matter after every big change.
Frequently asked questions
Do small websites need technical SEO
Yes. Small sites have fewer pages, so one technical mistake can affect the whole site.
What is a good server response time
Under 600 milliseconds is good. Under 200 milliseconds is excellent.
Does Cloudflare fix technical SEO automatically
It helps with HTTPS, speed and security headers, but you still need correct redirects, robots.txt, sitemap and canonical tags.
