Have you ever copied a link and found it full of strange codes like percent 20 and percent 3A. That is URL encoding. Browsers use it to send spaces, Urdu letters and special symbols safely through the web. It works well for computers but is confusing for people. A developer friend in Karachi once spent an hour debugging a broken tracking link, only to find that an ampersand in a campaign name had not been encoded and was splitting the link in two.

What URL encoding is

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters safely. Spaces, non English letters and symbols like ampersand, question mark and hash have special meanings or are not allowed. Encoding replaces them with a percent sign followed by a code. For example, a space becomes %20. Decoding reverses the process and turns the codes back into readable text.

What our tool does

The URL Encoder Decoder offers three actions:

  • Encode converts text into a safe URL component, perfect for query values and parameters
  • Decode turns encoded text or links back into readable form
  • Encode full URL keeps the structure of a complete URL while encoding unsafe characters

Everything runs in your browser, so the result appears instantly and your data stays with you.

How to use it

  1. Open the URL Encoder Decoder.
  2. Paste your URL or text.
  3. Click Encode, Decode or Encode full URL.
  4. Copy the result.

When you need encoding

  • Building tracking links with campaign names that include spaces or symbols
  • Passing search terms in a URL, such as a product search on your shop
  • Creating share links for WhatsApp, email or social media that include text
  • Working with APIs that require encoded parameters
  • Using Urdu or Arabic text in URLs or query values

When you need decoding

  • Reading messy links from analytics reports or emails
  • Checking where a redirect link goes when the destination is encoded inside it
  • Debugging broken links in your website or campaigns
  • Understanding Urdu URLs that appear as long codes when shared

Component versus full URL

Encoding a single component, such as a search term, encodes everything including slashes and colons. That is correct for values inside a URL. Encoding a full URL keeps characters like slashes and colons intact so the link still works. Use the right option for the job. If you encode a whole link as a component, it will no longer open as a normal URL.

Related tools

If your links are long because of tracking codes, clean them with the URL Parameter Remover. To create clean, readable page addresses from titles, use the URL Slug Generator. To see where a link finally lands, try the URL Redirect Checker.

A real example

An online bookstore in Lahore ran a Facebook campaign with links that included book titles in the URL. Some titles had ampersands and Urdu words, and those links opened the wrong page. We encoded the parameter values properly with the tool and the links worked perfectly. Their analytics reports also became easier to read after decoding old campaign links to see which books performed best.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Encoding the same text twice, which turns %20 into %2520 and breaks links.
  • Forgetting to encode ampersands in parameter values.
  • Encoding a full URL as a component when you need a clickable link.
