Internal links are the most underrated SEO tool I know. They are free, fully under your control and they work fast. On one of my sites, adding just five internal links from popular posts to a struggling guide moved it from position 18 to position 6 in about three weeks. No new content, no backlinks, only smarter linking.

What are internal links

Internal links connect one page of your website to another page on the same domain. Menus, footer links, breadcrumbs and links inside your articles are all internal links. They help visitors move around and they help Google discover pages, understand their topic and decide which ones are most important.

What the checker shows

Our Internal Link Checker scans any page and lists all internal links with:

  • The linked URL
  • The anchor text which is the clickable text
  • Status code so you spot broken internal links
  • Follow or nofollow type
  • Totals for links on the page, unique URLs, broken links and redirects

How to use it

  1. Open the Internal Link Checker.
  2. Enter a page URL from your site.
  3. Click Check Internal Links.
  4. Review anchors, broken links and redirects.

What good internal linking looks like

  • Descriptive anchor text. Use words that describe the target page, such as keyword research guide, not click here.
  • Links from strong pages to important pages. Your homepage and popular posts pass the most value.
  • Every page linked at least once. Pages with no internal links, often called orphan pages, are hard for Google to find.
  • No broken or redirected internal links. Always link to the final working URL.
  • Do not nofollow your own pages. It wastes internal authority.

How to find linking opportunities

Search your own site for mentions of a topic and turn the mention into a link to the guide that covers it. The AI Internal Link Suggestions tool does this automatically by reading your article and your site's pages, then suggesting relevant links with natural anchor text.

How many internal links per page

There is no strict limit. A typical blog post of 1000 words can comfortably include five to ten internal links where they genuinely help the reader. Long guides can include more. The rule is simple: link when a reader would benefit from more detail on that point.

A simple monthly routine

Each month, pick your three most important pages and check how many internal links point to them. Then add at least two new links from recent posts. This small habit steadily builds the strength of the pages that bring you money or leads.

An example of smart linking

Imagine a home decor blog in Islamabad with a money page called curtains price in Pakistan. The blog also has posts about choosing curtain colours, measuring windows and cleaning curtains. Before linking, none of those posts mentioned the price page. We added one natural link in each post, such as a sentence saying you can compare current curtain prices in our updated price guide. We also added the price guide to the main menu. Within a month the price page climbed from page two to the middle of page one. The blog posts kept their own rankings too, because helpful links improve the reader journey for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Do internal links pass authority

Yes. Internal links help spread authority from strong pages to other pages on your site.

Should menu links have keywords

Menu links should be short and clear. Use descriptive keywords where they read naturally.

What is an orphan page

It is a page with no internal links pointing to it. Fix it by linking from related content or a category page.
