Your title is the biggest, bluest line in your search listing. It is the first thing people read and often the only thing. When it is cut off with three dots, the most important part of your message can disappear. I have seen product titles lose the price, service titles lose the city name and blog titles lose the year, all because they were a few letters too wide.
Why pixels matter more than characters
Most guides say to keep titles under 60 characters. That is a useful rule of thumb, but Google actually limits titles by display width, roughly 600 pixels on desktop. A title full of narrow letters like i, l and t can fit 70 characters. A title full of wide letters like W, M and capital letters may be cut at 50. The SERP Title Preview measures your title using the same font size Google uses, so the result is far more reliable than a character count.
What the tool shows
- Character count
- Desktop width in pixels against the 600 pixel limit
- Mobile width in pixels
- A clear fit or truncation message, with how many pixels you have to spare or need to cut
- A live preview of how the title will look
How to use it
- Open the SERP Title Preview.
- Type or paste your title.
- Watch the width and preview update instantly.
- Shorten or reorder words until it fits.
How to write titles that fit and work
- Lead with the main keyword. If anything is cut, it should be the least important part.
- Use short, strong words. Guide works better than Comprehensive Informational Guide.
- Put your brand at the end, or leave it out on long titles. Google often shows the site name separately.
- Use separators wisely. A colon or a vertical bar takes less space than words like and also.
- Avoid all capitals. They take much more space and look like shouting.
- Include a reason to click, such as a year, price, number or location.

- Too wide: Professional Website Design and Development Services in Islamabad Pakistan
- Fits: Website Design in Islamabad | Fast, Mobile Friendly Sites
When to break the rule
Sometimes a slightly longer title is fine if the important words come first and the cut part is only the brand name. The goal is not a perfect number but a title whose meaning survives on every screen.
A real example
A blog about government jobs in Pakistan had titles packed with every possible keyword. Most were cut off before the job name appeared. We rewrote forty titles using the preview tool so that the department name and the year came first. Click through rate from Google rose clearly over the next month, while rankings stayed the same. More clicks from the same rankings is one of the quickest wins in SEO.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Repeating the keyword twice. It wastes space and looks spammy.
- Using the same title on many pages. Each page needs its own.
- Forgetting the H1. Keep your page heading close in meaning to the title so Google trusts it.
