The fastest way to plan link building is to look at who already links to your competitors. If a website links to three businesses like yours, there is a good chance it will link to you too. This is called a link gap analysis, and it turns guesswork into a clear to do list.

What the tool compares

Our Competitor Backlink Analysis checks two domains side by side:

  • Verified backlinks for each domain
  • Referring domains for each
  • Dofollow links for each
  • Total domains linking or mentioning

Then it shows the most useful part, the link gap, which is the list of websites that link to or mention your competitor but not you. It also shows sites linking to both.

How to use it

  1. Open the Competitor Backlink Analysis.
  2. Enter your domain and one competitor domain.
  3. Click Compare Backlinks and wait while both are scanned.
  4. Export the link gap list into a sheet for outreach.

How to use the link gap

Group the gap websites by type:

  • Directories and listings: submit your business if they are relevant and reputable.
  • Blogs and magazines: pitch a guest article or offer expert input.
  • Resource pages: suggest your best guide or tool for their list.
  • Partners and suppliers: if your competitor is listed as a partner, ask whether you can be too.
  • News mentions: look for stories you can contribute to.

Choose the right competitors

Compare with businesses that rank for your target keywords, not only those you consider rivals in real life. Use the Google SERP Checker to see who ranks on page one, then analyse two or three of them. Websites appearing in all their profiles are usually the most important in your niche.

Do not copy everything

Some competitor links come from paid placements, old partnerships or spammy tactics. Skip anything that looks low quality or unrelated. Quality and relevance matter more than matching their numbers exactly.

A real example

A small digital agency in Islamabad compared itself with a bigger competitor. The link gap showed a local startup community website, two business directories, a university event page and a technology blog that published guest posts. In two months the agency got listed in both directories, sponsored a small student event and wrote one guest article. Five new referring domains, all relevant and local, helped its service pages climb several positions.

Keep the comparison fresh

Competitors keep building links, so a link gap from six months ago is already outdated. Repeat the comparison every few months. New gap sites often reveal what your competitors are doing right now, such as a new partnership, a recent news feature or a fresh guest post campaign. Spotting these early lets you respond while the opportunity is still open.

Turn the gap into weekly tasks

Copy the gap list into a sheet and add a column for action. Mark directories as submit, blogs as pitch and partner pages as contact. Handle five items a week. After a month you will have contacted twenty sites, which usually turns into several new referring domains. Run the comparison again every quarter to measure how much of the gap you have closed.
